2012 will be an exciting year for Sandhills Striders! We will be having our 2nd annual awards ceremony to recognize members of our club who excel in various areas throughout the year. We will have several awards which will be decided upon by vote of the awards committee but most of the awards will be posted here to give incentive to members during the year:

 
1) Most Improved Runner:  To encourage participation in our local races, the winner must have competed in at least ½ of the series races. Based on 5km and 10km distances in the local race series, the member who shows the best percentage improvement in race times. A comparison will be made in times from the Spring and Fall race series.

2) Volunteer Hours:  Awarded to the club member who accumulates the most volunteer hours during the year. Volunteer hours will include any time spent assisting with organizing races, working aide stations, pacing, crewing, clean up etc...to encourage our members to give back to the sport. Travel time included.

3) Honorable Mention: For outstanding achievements during the year example Boston Qualifiers, or other big events...

4) Cumulative Race Miles: For the member who logs the most cumulative race miles for the year.

5) Club Standards: The club will set standards to achieve in the 5km, 10km, ½ marathon and marathon distances. Each member who achieves 2/4 of the  standards will receive an award. Three levels gold, silver, bronze, divided male and female age groups.

6) The Mary Taylor Award- This award is for outstanding service to our club.

7) The Sam Torrey Award- This award is for running through extraordinary circumstances.

Remember-

Club members will be responsible for submitting volunteer hours, race miles and times. Remember, if you don't tell us, we won't know what you have done.

For miles to count the races must have an entry fee, an official time and a race number.

The members will submit info to Donna Raye  for approval and then will be forwarded to Tim Sullivan who will keep a running total on a spreadsheet.

The "year" will end after the last local race in the series.
